Cheers and Jeers: Inauguration Edition [Jan. 21]

Okay, so now that the semester has started in earnest, it’s time for another installment of Humpday Cheers and Jeers.  The hilarity and histrionics start after the jump.

It may seem obvious, but the biggest Cheers of the day go out to President Elect Barack Hussein Obama, who took the oath of office yesterday despite Bush Nominee Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. (who gets major Jeers for the week) royally screwing up the simple 35 word oath.  You know, the one that’s written in the constitution?

But, that’s not the point.  The point is, we’re looking at the possibility for a presidency and a political process in which cynicism is no longer a prerequisite.  And that’s a beautiful thing.  Speaking of beautiful things, did anyone see Barack and Michelle party-hopping last night?  She’s stunning.

Jeers to sore loser Norm Coleman, former incumbent Senator from the state of Minnesota.  After a certified recount process, Coleman has a 225 vote deficit to Al Franken (yeah, I know, but Al Franken is one smart cookie), but is refusing to give up.  A myriad of legal challenges has resulted, and although Coleman doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on, he’s doing his best to make sure that it’s a long time before Franken gets seated.

Cheers to Moe’s.  Joey Bag of Donuts, that’s all I have to say.

Jeers to weather reporters.  Now, we all know that weather forecasting is shoddy at best, and ranks lower on the scientific scale than astrology.  But really?  Telling us that we’re going to have a snow day, and we get exactly 5 minutes of precipitation?  Fail.  You’re guaranteeing hangovers with that kind of forecast.

And finally, a small note at the end of a (much too) small Wednesday C&J, Cheers to the fact that we’re about to have a new segment here at Furman Underground.  In our attempts to give you regular incentive to come back and check out what’s new, I’ll be opening up a new segment on the blog, starting this Friday.  I can’t give word yet on what it’s going to be, but stay tuned.
